Paul Crocker has been a Computer Professional who began his IT career working with a large Western Canadian computer reseller for over ten years, then moving to the public sector. Beginning in 1996, he has managed the Internal Help Desk for the reseller’s staff, moving to an on-site contracted position managing a 800-seat, 18-site WAN comprised of a mix of Novell NetWare, Sun UltraSPARC and Microsoft Windows NT Servers and various PC-platform, Macintosh and Sun SPARCstation workstations. He has since moved to a support and consulting role including network backbone installations and upgrades with a focus on Nortel, Cisco and 3Com equipment and software, and e-mail system installation and management with emphasis on products from Novell and Microsoft. He has also added competencies on Storage Area Networks through providers such as HP (Compaq StorageWorks), IBM and Network Appliance, and Network Management services through providers such as HP (OpenView) and Tivoli (now IBM) Director.
A recent addition to the list of skills includes virtualization with VMware Server, vSphere and vCenter. Moving to a Crown Corporation was a dramatic shift in scale, but has allowed for much-improved abilities in terms of managing and working with teams of support staff from within the organization and from numerous contracting agencies. The working focus has narrowed to Windows Server systems from most others, but, as always, there are sideways trips in IT career directions. In Paul’s case, the side trip involves deployment and management of CentOS and RedHat Linux servers, both physical and virtual, and the applications that run on them.
Outside work, Paul is the much delighted father of a four-year-old boy who loves movies, bike-riding and long SkyTrain trips, and the husband of the Beachcomber boss, who keeps him busy with requests for the Help Desk.

- @LornaSuzuki Yes. I'll be tweeting in waves when I'm doing interesting things rather than a daily tweet march. Glad we'll be in touch more.
- @PoMoLibrary You're very articulate for a building, Library. ;) Tweet well!
- @LornaSuzuki Thanks for the honourific. :) My #socmed use needed de-spamming, streamlining & a "meaningful" reboot. Feeling better now.
- @LornaSuzuki Hi Lorna! I started a new contract in January and the transition has kept me very busy. Also needed to think on my #socmed use.
